Luck Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Luck

By Freeyad Ibrahim

Forty years ago,
when I was fifteen,
I found a ten-ruble note on the way
Since that day
I have never taken my face off the ground,
and I can count the outcome of my life
and record it as millionaires do
I calculate it thus:

2917 buttons
244,172 pins
12 feather tips
3 pens
1 handkerchief

This is not surprising
Relying on luck alone
and waiting for a blow from its blows.
A person inherits nothing but this just inheritance:
Curved back, miserable life
