Invitation Poem by Robert Eckstein

Invitation

She said, 'Don't stand out there in the rain.
'It's cold, it's wet. This is insane!
'Come inside where it's dry and warm,
'I'll give you shelter from the storm.

'Come inside where it's warm and dry
'I've ham and biscuits, coffee, pie.
'You've stood there grieving far too long.
'It's time to sing a happy song.

'I'll tell you now, you're not the first
'And if not the best, you're not the worst.
'Many a fellow has come my way
'But just a few agreed to stay.

'My rules are these: accept, don't ask.
'Drink deeply from my golden flask.
'your life is but a tiny spark,
'A glimmer between dark and dark'.
