Inextinguishable Spark Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Inextinguishable Spark

By Freeyad Ibrahim

Can human nature ever wholly and radically
Transformed?

Can the man whom God made good
be made wicked by man
and reprimanded for bad repute Earned?

Can the soul be reshaped in its eternity
by destiny and made evil,
because destiny is evil and Scorned?

Can the heart become misshapen
like a spinal column bent beneath a too low roof,
Deformed?

Is there not in every human soul,
an essential spark, an element of Divine
indestructible in this world
and immortal in the next
which can through goodness be Preserved?

Can this essential spark, and element of divine
be nourished and fanned into glorious flame
and which can never be quite extinguished by evil
but it remains Burned?
