In The Library Skylight Poem by Nathaniel A.Wallace

In The Library Skylight

A skylight being one of the most enjoyable aspects of a library.
(A Prelude to "In the Rain You Called Yourself")

Did I say 'I love you, ' dear?
I meant it, only as a friend -
For if I loved you otherwise,
We should have to make amends;

Say, the spring of memory fails us both
And frozen what from winter lends,
Within it runs still vernal tones, so
Wherefore shall the darkness send?
Hitherto, what wend - kills kills -
O, whatever end!
