I Feel Like The Lightening Has Struck My Soul Today, A Urdu Ghazal Of Abdul Hamid Adam In English Translation Poem by Ravi Kopra

I Feel Like The Lightening Has Struck My Soul Today, A Urdu Ghazal Of Abdul Hamid Adam In English Translation

I feel like the lightening has struck my soul today
I feel like crying from the depths of my heart today

How pleasing for the thirsty lips to touch a jugful of wine in a tavern!
The flowers are blooming in pleasure to show their happiness today

My delicate heart faces the flames of sorrows today
How inconceivable! I laugh at the ways of the nature today

We know for sure we are going to die one day, my friend
Then why does my soul worry so much the sorrows of life today?

Go to bed now my poor bruised heart, it is already late at night
The stars, everywhere in the sky, have already gone to bed today

'Adam's' heart has no major complaint today
Except its pulse seems to halt for a while today.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
the original ghazal in Urdu

aaj phir ruuh meñ ik barq sī lahrātī hai
dil kī gahrā.ī se rone kī sadā aatī hai

yuuñ chaTaktī haiñ ḳharābāt meñ jaise kaliyāñ
tishnagī sāġhar-e-labrez se Takrātī hai

shola-e-ġham kī lapak aur mirā nāzuk sā mizāj
mujh ko fitrat ke ravayye pe hañsī aatī hai

maut ik amr-e-musallam hai to phir ai saaqī
ruuh kyuuñ ziist ke ālām se ghabrātī hai

so bhī jā ai dil-e-majrūh bahut raat ga.ī
ab to rah rah ke sitāroñ ko bhī niiñd aatī hai

aur to dil ko nahīñ hai koī taklīf 'adam'
haañ zarā nabz kisī vaqt Thahar jaatī hai

It is okay to cry. Though for a feeling of lightening that is powerful! Rest your soul for life is or can be incredibly over whelming. Take good care!
