Human Family Picnic Poem by Robert Charles Howard

Human Family Picnic

Imagine a Human Family picnic
where everyone shows:
from every sect and hue and nation
gathered at a common table.

The Almighty swoops down to bless us:
known to all from Torah, Q'uran and Gospels
and countless other books of wisdom -
known to our souls' aspirations.

After dessert, the Holy One
quakes the earth with his scepter
beside the sacrificial pyre,

“Brothers, sisters and cousins,
images of your creator,
every unholy war
desecrates the face of God
and there is no other kind.
Cast your savage pride to the flames
and live together in peace! ”

Obediently, we toss our
pride onto the pyre
recoiling from its smoldering stench.
The Lion lies down to preen the Lamb's fleece
and Universal Love, released from her chains,
Walks free in every land.

Come, cast your savage pride to the flames And live! ” This poet Robert Howard seems the most talented poet with a great vision for humanbrotherhood. The great spiraling of this Godly Gospel is his kind hearted verse of great words.

Robert, I like the emphasis on 'pride.' I'd say pride is the very barrier which prevents such a 'Human Family Picnic' from occuring in the first place. Great write and wishful thinking! Brian

A very noble vision.Robert. We are all human beings regardless of race, color or creed. I like this Irish proverb, 'It is in the shelter of each other that the people live..' Take care. Regards, sandra

This is a lovely dream, Robert....Laura Nyro wrote a song called 'Stone Soul Picnic' - kind of reminds me of the feeling I get whenever I listen to this song. I wonder...I wonder....if there shall ever be peace in the valley, someday? ? ? Thanks for sharing this. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

I love this. The narration speaks of a philosophy of 'one kind'. There is no hippy-drppyness to this it is a straight forward statement of ideals. I could say I feel a lot for this because it fits in with my outlook, but that would be narrow-minded and ignoring the skill that is employed within the narration. Wilst lacking rhyme it has a feeling of rhymeness to it: the line rhyme but they don't, it just feels that way. This is a great crafted piece my friend.
