How Can It Be Fair? Poem by Ray Springer

How Can It Be Fair?

I’ve waited so long for this moment to come and finally its here!
Here you say? Is it really where?
I can’t see it show me,
Where is it? I can’t feel it hold me
The sun rises with the scent of my dreams on me still
The moon rises with my hunger growing stronger and stronger
Oh how long has this been a torture to me?
I’ve yearned for it so restlessly
Now u say that’s its here, that’s a lie how could this be fair
What’s the matter with me? How could I have missed it so carelessly?
This must be some kind of joke
For my heart could not have just given up hope
Or has it, for not a feeling, not a twinge not the slightest butterfly
Nor a beating or a flutter but instead a cold spoon on a platter
How can meaninglessness’ be so meaningful?
So important yet utterly undisturbed
Connecting the dots thus has become impossible to achieve
Which do I trust a head that knows or a heart that believes?
