Her Dog Poem by Randy McClave

Her Dog

She chose her dog over me
She said he was better company,
Because a dog is much easier to love
All it really needs and wants is a belly rub.
She said her dog is her very best friend
And it will be until the day her life does end,
And until that final day
With her dog she will walk and talk and play.
I once asked her out on a date
Surprising to me she said that sounded great,
We'll be ready she then texted back
Her and little Bodhi Mack.
She says a dog will never runaway or hide
If you need warmth or compassion they're at your side,
And they are always there to listen or for you to talk to
And they will always kiss you when your talk is through.
Having dogs was her ultimate choice
She exclaimed that to the top of her voice,
Because, she says a dog is always truthful and loyal
And a dog will always treat you Royal.
She gave up a lot of things and she did without
Sometimes from that fact she might pout,
But, the things that she gave up she truly didn't need
Her life is based on compassion and love and not greed.
Some people are just truly cruel and mean and vile
They give up their dogs, so they don't have to sacrifice their lifestyle,
There's a lot of things she says that she does regret
But, not for having a dog as a friend and as a pet,
The reason why she says she loves dogs so much
It's not because they are a crutch,
It is because the only time they ever break your heart
It is when from life they do depart.
