Harvey 2 (Hexes In Texas) Poem by Pleasant Dabbs

Harvey 2 (Hexes In Texas)

An impending event seen and a warning given...
The effects of the event would be catastrophic
Those who listened and were wise
Heeded the advisory;
Expeditiously they packed and left
With heads and eyes firmly fastened to the road ahead
Not swerving to the left nor to the right
Counseled not to remain, but to leave
That they might abscond
And circumvent the aftermath.
For acceding to the admonition
The fugitives were remunerated
With life and the select personal items
They packed and carried with them
Leaving behind the effects of numerous years
Of residence, work, sweat, employ, friendships, family
Memories which would never be forgotten
But temporarily drowned in an overwhelming convolution and
Surge of rain, water, wind... Harvey an unmerciful boxer
Coercing them with unrelenting and overwhelming force
Into the losers' corner of the prizefighter's ring
Submitting our will to His
Thirty thousand displaced, thousands rescued...
The waters continue to rise
Katrina the predecessor yes, temperamental and feisty
Harvey then the sequel to Katrina
But more tenacious, more disastrous, more...(you add the last word)
