Green Flame By Pamela Uschuk In Hindi/Urdu Translation

meri ring finger jaisi patli-dubli
female hummingbird uDti aaee tukraaee
glass ki plate par jo us k aur meray beech thee
itni jaldi main thee vo k na main aur na vo
ek doosaray ka naam jaan saki.

vo haryali shamah, eucalyptus ki ek sukhi
tehni se uD kar mere paas aaee thee.
takkar lagtay hi vo dum kho bethi
uski sooee ki tarah chonch do baar khuli
vishm bhasha main kehtay k vo ab chali.
garmi din ki baD rahi thee, ek jalti saans main ne lee
maut ki raftaar dekhtay main khof se bhar gayi.

chemo pe main thee.kamzore. ro paDi main
is chammakti hari zamurd ki maut par
us halki si ko rukh liya main ne hatheli par
vilaap main fakhtay roay, hoo, hoo, o, hoo
jab par us k chotay se shreer par lipat aaey.
aasmaan turant bhool jaaey ga usay,
jaisay vo bhool jaaey ga muje.

Green Flame
Pamela Uschuk

Slender as my ring finger, the female hummingbird crashed
into plate glass separating her and me
before we could ask each other's name. Green flame,
she launched from a dead eucalyptus limb.
Almost on impact, she was gone, her needle beak
opening twice to speak the abrupt language of her going,
taking in the day's rising heat as I took
one more scalding breath, horrified by death's velocity.
Too weak from chemo not to cry
for the passage of her emerald shine,
I lifted her weightlessness into my palm.
Mourning doves moaned, who, who,
oh who while her wings closed against the tiny body
sky would quick forget as soon as it would forget mine
