Gold Vampires Poem by Mark Meck

Gold Vampires

Rating: 5.0

Sickening winds blow
Of machete gangs at war
Virgin girls and mothers too
Ravaged, robbed, raped so.
Down shafts of mines closed
Wars ragging for gold dug
I heard skulls split, throats slit
to clear the way for rot.
And they trade the gold for the dollar
Notes smeared in blood, we buy,
Few dollars for our daily bread.
The highest bidder has the day
But just a crown of thorns not the gold
Today we frown at the machete
And hug them who wield it.
Vampires and hypocrites!
Show me one thing cast in gold
Except jewels and medals abroad.
