Forsakenfaces Poem by desamangalam ramakrishnan

Forsakenfaces

Abandon the old habits
Avoid the old traits
And the ancestral faces.
Nobody in need of the words
Surged in the old cradle songs
Inherited from the grandmother.

No need of remembering
the sorrowful sighs
heaved by the forefathers,
they will suffocate your journeys
and the motivated affections.

No need of olden toys
but if felt essential to be a baby
You are allowed, and see
there are innovative toys
in the Gulf-market.

New materials -
new words to capture,
old materials -
old words to abandon
and even mother and father
become hawker's goods
and the suggestive words
already worn out.

No need of reading Ramayana
beside the corpse
of your father or mother.
But the condoling visitors
can't help praising your shelves
where every book is
placed luxuriously
and unexpectedly there peeps out
the BhagavatGita.
