First Flush Of Spring Freshness Poem by Deanna Samuels

First Flush Of Spring Freshness

After weeks of restrictions and staying indoors
The day opened warm and sunny, too nice to stay home for chores
A run in the country, a walk by the shore of Lake Ontario
Both appealed to the outside starved human ego

There we were, driving along the quiet country lanes
The first real outing since the last days of frosty plains
Looking, admiring the foliage and budding roadside picturesque
The entire scene was of the first flush of Spring freshness

Heading towards the Lake, a new small park had grown from an embryo
Perfectly set out, waterpark and playground; seats facing Lake Ontario
Water calm, splashing sounds as wavelets gently fell upon the sandy shore
Kayakers and even first ducklings enjoying the freedom of the lakeshore

The sun sparkles on the water, grass underfoot rich verdant green
Birds soar in the sky above, swooping down when eye a tasty glean
The afternoon moves on; slow drive back to eke out return to home confines
What a treat though, to see and take in the first flush of Spring freshness
