Family Stories Poem by Marilyn Lott

Family Stories

Rating: 2.8

Isn’t it fun to look at old pictures?
It’s a way for us to remember
If we didn’t have any photos
Memories would just be embers

Looking through pictures with dad
And the stories that he told
It was almost like a film strip
I could watch his life unfold

Sitting at the kitchen table
With my parents throughout the years
If I could have just one more time
Hear their happiness, their fears

Working alongside my Dad
Sharing the daily chores
Ah yes, what great memories
But I can’t do that any more

Tossing hay bales from a pickup
Out to the waiting cattle
And all the time we were talking
Sometimes just idle prattle

I can see him in his favorite chair
As though it were yesterday
I smile as I think about the things
That he would have to say

His pride in me gives me comfort
Because I knew I did my best
With his constant encouragement
It gives me a peaceful rest

It’s important to drag out pictures
Showing life’s many glories
And sharing them along with
Those wonderful family stories!

A wordsmith's picture about pictures. You can't get any more poetic than that.
