Family Poem by Herbert Nehrlich

Family

Rating: 5.0

What then you ask, might be a family
is it a bunch of people thrown together?
Or is it God's own plan up in his gallery
creating birds that share a common feather?

A new arrival, Spring's delicious bud
conceived through love as others have before
is placed into your arms, it is your blood.
a promise for your future, gypsy lore.

The winds of change are whispering to me
my sun remembers where to send those rays
and when the darkness comes (when will it be?)
there always is the moon, he has his ways.

Great poem Herbert! I think family can be so much more than the one you're born in to. I would have never thought I would consider a German man who lives in Australia and is a Doctor that also teaches to be part of my 'family'....but, of course you know I do!

That's the nicest thing anyone (and of course you are not 'anyone') has said to me in quite some time. Thank you. Best H

This is great. The three arguably most huggable ones in one place. I will stretch my arms even though the situation will be past arm's length... Best H

Herbert, this poem is pure brilliance. You held me from the first line on. You've described in such lovely words what a true family is. Hugs to you, CJ
