Escape To The Mountains Poem by Sven Rhoads

Escape To The Mountains

For so long I have heard a voice in the wind
Speaking to me with its addicting gravity
Like the siren that has my song to sing
I see only the direction on which to go
Years have passed but the pulling remains
The undertow of eternal longing
A stomach of knots and pockets of rain
For I am Atlas and I will take this weight no more

Faces that have once seemed full of shine
Are now scowling to be my enemies
Home is only but a state of mind
And this island is foreclosing on me

Too many times I've dragged myself over broken glass
Trying to balance over the pit of vipers
On the horizon I see destiny coming fast
Over 30 years its become inevitable
And so I'll go and ride the skies one day
Returning only to take my other half
Across the vast and uncharted plains
We'll take a chance and be free at last

Escape to the mountains and leave them in dust
Cause the journey we make is for better days
No longer I'm drowning, westward's our way
Your negative snares wont keep me here
Escape to the mountains, prepare to depart
I'm breaking away from the dead weight and chains
Just you and I will brave their storm and rain
Until the dawn of our brand new start
