Devoid Of Sin And Greed If I Will Be Gone Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Devoid Of Sin And Greed If I Will Be Gone

I will be gone from this world
just like a passing cloud
which moves overhead so candidly
which no one cares to see or notice
but I will never get to re-appear again
once I am gone even
if you call out my name a thousand times
as that journey will be so irretraceable
and into dust I will dissolve
that even if you say a hundred prayers
even if you make endless pleas
I will never be able to hear you
or find my path back home.

I will be gone from this world
without the burdens of this life,
without the treasures of this earth
but I will take with me
the veracity of my conscience
as my intentions or deeds
were never malafide
and on my books of records
and in my template of rules
I have abided by love for truth
and melancholy within me.
And if I have ever spoken words
that hurt you
it was to rectify or vindicate
it was to verify or retaliate
as what should be and what is right
must not miss it's track
neither could I let insult
cause more injury.

I will be gone from this world
before even you know it
as I have spent my time on this earth
with zeal and zest so consistently;
if there was anything in my vision
it was always righteousness,
if there was anything I carried
as my banner
it was always justice
as it helped me
to reason and reform
what I could do
over what I had to overlook;
and as my life moved
like that passing cloud
my conscience never lost its power,
my endeavors were always
in synchrony to my faith in God
and to those who believed in me.

I will be gone from this world
with my heart of gold
that made me love everyone
the way I needed to love them;
and as I cared genuinely for those
who needed my care
I considered it as my moral duty;
but as I involved my full diligence
and felt I was never going
to be wrong or regretful,
I got a backlash many times
that was filled with ingratitude.

I will be gone from this world
without any sullen remorse
as I have been the star of tolerance
as I have been the moon of patience
that in that night of hope
when they looked for a light
they could see my face virtually
and know that I was there for them
though they never expected me to do
all that I did silently for them
to see them in the limelight
of peace and joyfulness.

I will be gone from this world
and upon their lips
will be my name forever,
in their eyes may gather some tears
when they remember me;
but when they will quote my words
when they will search
for some of my mistakes,
when they will recollect of me
my memories of might will replay
and it will make them realize
their adverse opinions
could never discourage my willpower.

I will be gone from this world
and there will never be another me
who could play any game
with wit and tact
and win no accolades
for those little achievements
I pulled in for everyone
which made all the difference
to those who waited for prosperity;
and though all may have not gained
what they dreamt of or hoped for,
my own conscience will never feel betrayed
as I kept insisting and fighting for them
believing that yesterday was my battlefront
and I was their soldier
who had to either win or lose,
or take defeat and humbly quit
without any anger or hate.

I will be gone from this world
having dipped my feet and walked
in all the waters cold and blue,
in all weathers chilling and warm,
yet diligently I stood by
all my responsibilities
and in those contests rose my pride
that as I leave this world,
I will carry with me
my humble soul so devoid of sin and greed.
