Desert Sonnet Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Desert Sonnet

Rating: 5.0

Shall I compare you to a desert horse?
You are as sturdy and as without a name.
Hot winds do parch and from my throat do force
Entreaties for a cool life-giving rain.
Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven burns
Upon my skin as pale as winter mists
And my skin a deep shade of scarlet turns.
And you my weak commands resist.
And so, I dismount and set you free
Because before my eyes the sands have turned to sea.

Hi Suzanne, Wonderful poem. Desert, desert horse, parched throat... Great concoction of imagery creating an atmosphere of upheaval. Loved this line : : Because before my eyes the sands have turned to sea.: : But I could not decipher, who you are addressing through the poem: : : Shall I compare you to a desert horse? : : Some hint would have been helpful. Nice poem. A 100+++

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the sonnet. The idea comes from the song A Horse With No Name by the group America.
