Democracy Day Poem by Oluwatobi Olaide

Democracy Day

CELEBRATION?

On a day like this their demon got crazy,

Our lives they made play ground

Making a kamikaze run across our lives making it look self-destruct.

On a day like this I wish the mini tree of our protection wasn't cut down for the sun to bleach us of ourlittle preferred freedom,

For the rain to smite us for no reason, making us too weak to fight but sleep or...

The pains in our chests could only be treated as congestion so they give us cough syrup for the relief.

These we didn't deserve but the satisfaction gave our soul a relief so we kept asking for more..

Addiction? Everyone got one right? Under this we hide our pains right?

On a day like this, they speak of their achievement (lol) like it had favoured us,

Our addictions made us listen.

On a day like this you hear so much of Niger area...

On a day like Today we celebrate that day our demons went crazy.

Really, How crazy are they now? ..Well,

Happy demon crazy day Niger area.

Democracy Day
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Analysis

Demons are crazy on their own, when a demon goes crazy then there is chaos.

The demon in this context are leaders during the military era

The era of civilian government gave birth to crazy demons

On a day like this they (demons)celebrate a transition, they have used people's lives as a playground, ruining it and making it look like we are the cause of our predicaments (lazy Nigerian youth)

On a day like this, I wish the mini tree (military)was still in power instead of leading us to false freedom, leaving people to cry in pains till they become so weak they accept their fate and do nothing but cry to sleep or do other things that satisfiestheir incapacitation.

This pain became so much in people's heart they look for soothing relief to take their mind off the pains like Drugs, concerts, comedy shows, movies, religions and likes. These becomes our Savior from the pain till it becomes an addiction. We all have an addiction right?

Today they speak of their achievements like it has changed our lives knowing it hasn't we wake-up to listen to what they had to say this morning (speech)on TV, radio...

We hear too much on a day like this

Today we celebrate the day these demons went crazy.

Isn't this Worth celebrating?

Happy demon crazy day people. Tell your neighbor lol.
