Corruption Poem by Damilare Odeyemi

Corruption

For how long will we define corruption
As it is in existence since inception
Leaving us with no array of option
Other than an awful and pitiful condition

It is deep-rooted in many economies
It's never wanted in all nooks and crannies
Here, for how long will we keep up the campaigns
To get our economy off its chains

There would be light at the end of the tunnel
What if we last for centuries in the tunnel
We are just like a lost ball in the field
With no laudable solutions from our different 'fields'

Far from us lies our financial buoyancy pinnacle
Because our polity is just a cycle;
You leave THERE and put your DEAR
Even when the erstwhile leaves no good mark on the rest
He relies on ill-acquired goodies to enjoy his rest

Seated on the high sit is he named after visionless
A bit of loudmouth who lacks manner of address
Tell me one who has given a community a gain
I'll show you elephant projects again and again

Under their feet lies the municipal rights
Idle hand is an understatement for their right
But do we turn left when nothing is right?
Or do we turn right when there's nothing left?

How do we combat this condition?
That has placed on us so many afflictions
Should we pray for a redemption?
No! in my own parlance; a total revolution.
