Control Poem by Poetic Daughter

Control

Rating: 5.0

Control
Isn't that what you're looking for?
Control
because everything goes on
and no one
and nothing
waits for you
and you, you've been left
behind,
with a broken foot and a world that runs
Control,
over yourself
because you can't choose
your doom and your future
which looks so far yet so close
and you
have
No
Control
over it

but you can
Control
your body,
you are the landowner
and you can
Control
Every single drop of cold water
sliding down your throat,
gently settling in the bottom of your
Clean
Empty
Stomach

You can
Control
those numbers
oh yes, those terrifying numbers
they are everywhere
your mind is a calculator
that won't
Stop
Please!
Stop!
But no. It goes on and on and on
counting.
How many?
How many pills?
Crunches?
Jumping Jacks?
How many minutes
endless minutes
of workout?
(Not Enough)

How many?
How many calories?
Pounds?
How many pounds does that cold
Awful
Old
Scale
Show?
(Too Many)

And
you
can
Control
This, yourself, your body, your hunger.
Touching the bones sticking out of your body you feel in
Control
You feel powerful and strong but

Not enough
It is not enough
Never enough!
I don't know how to go on, but I feel in Control. So what else matters?
