Cathedral Poem by Tom Billsborough

Cathedral

Rating: 3.5

Above, below, the deepest blues surround my berth.
The capsule is complete and gently sways,
The deep silence now inducing sleep.
Voices from the past stand sentinel
In that vast bell muted by slow sound.
This is my cathedral where profound peace
Engenders song and images in sharply
Focused dreams. It seems appropriate
That the gently lapping waves enhance
The flow of words that tumble out
Like happy children on the last day of term.
Who would curb their singing?
Too long have I denied my inner being.

Capsule just describes the feeling of enclosure in the boat's cabin. Wouldn't mind a diving bell but never been in one unfortunately.

no wonder i didn't understand! ! ! a " dream" . " A diving bell is a rigid chamber used to transport divers from the surface to depth and back in open water, usually for the purpose of performing underwater work." were you living in one of THESE? ? bri :) bri :)

That the gently lapping waves enhance The flow of words that tumble out Like happy children on the last day of term. Lovely lines and an apt imagery! I am reminded of my school days! How talkative and ebullient children become on the last day of the term! A wonderful poem! I can visualize your Cathedral of peace!

Hi Valsa. I think I was told often I was too talkative as a child! Especially on the last day before the Summer holidays. I think we sang; No more school for nine long weeks, we're breaking up tomorrow.. We had long holidays then. Sadly the schoolkids near me only get six weeks these days. All work and no play, as they say. And you never forget those nights spent on boats. Nice to hear from one of my favourite poets again.

What richness this poem conjures, in the first few lines I can feel the quietening down a great opening line by the way and this is my cathedral where profound peace engenders song and images in sharply focused dreams and the last few lines that's my kind of Catherdral I sent the poem to my boatbuilder poet friend I know he would enjoy that poem . Magnificent poem full marks Tom. I only have a few poems in my favourite poem list but this is certainly one.
