Can't You See Me
Can't you see me sitting here?
On the street corner
year upon year
you see me here every day
yet, never through a word my way
No hello or how do you do
Am I so invisible to you
Are you scared to look my way
in case this could be you someday
When faith fights against the gods
fighting in vain against all odds
I was once as proud as you
well paid job, I wore a suit
the great big house
the flashy car's
a family to that lived like stars.
Till one day the gods conspired
took away my wife my child
and all in life that I held dear
now in tatters, filled with tears
Can't you see me sitting here?
On the street corner
year upon year
Are you ashamed to look my way?
In case this could be you one day.
This is the first work of yours that I have come across. It is indeed a powerful reminder that each person is an individual with all of the dignity that humanity ought to confer, but we so easily forget this, becoming consumed with position and appearance. Thank you for this well-written and needful reminder. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Are you ashamed to look my way? Yes! Time changes. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.

A plea for recognition from a man who has lost everything but he has gained wisdom and dignity as he observes the career people with their aloofness racing to the top that can crumble so easily. Great write with lovely rhyming!
