Burial Of A National Hero Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Burial Of A National Hero

Cowardice act behind night's black screen
Clinched away his being, while on duty
Moon and stars hid behind cloud mass
Ere the brutality could take on to wings

The heroic commitment to nation's sovereignty
shattered by a lead pellet, whilst within the hearty chest
While a nation looked up to celestial might
his silent cadaver paraded to the grave, in pride

Shiny bugles broke the mourning silence
top brassy ranks saluted him in graciousstance
National flag enwrapped cool casket par elegance
lowered down on to mother earth's warmth

Sun, moon and stars too, unconventionally
halted for a moment, in veneration.
A mild soothebreeze passed cross faces
sounding a hissy note through cypress needles
