Brief Encounter Poem by Qumber Rizvi

Brief Encounter

Rating: 0.5

It's early morning and the train is late
It would appear that this is fate
I stand on the platform looking glum
It's really cold and my hands are numb

I need a lift so I buy some tea
I think about how things used to be
I hear a word being spoken in my ear
I turn round and she is standing near

It takes a moment before I get her drift
Hearing some words has given me a lift
She is asking me about the train
I say it's late as I try to wake up my brain

She asks me where it is I am going
I look into her eyes without even knowing
We talk about this and we talk about that
At first we stood and then we sat

I drink my tea as we chat
I am engrossed and that's a fact
I start to think it is a dream
But no, it is exactly as it seems

The train is now delayed until seven o five
I no longer care the conversation has made me feel alive
I am disappointed when, at last, I see the train
For this brief encounter will not happen again!
