Black Is Me Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

Black Is Me

Rating: 4.4

The soil, Black
That habours the seed
And gives it life to man

The crude
The coal
Of earth's heart
And the economy of man

The black of the night
All conquering
That changes all to its shade
And respite in sleep

This, this
Is the beauty of me, and kin
The resilience that saw,
That suffered,
That conquered
The planned extinction
Of the noble shade in slavery.

There is pride in your race, who endured slavery for so long. African Americans have their own special beauty.
