Bedtime Prayer Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Bedtime Prayer

Rating: 4.0

An ancient prayer
I came upon this early morn -

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
Bless the bed I lie on.
Four corners to my bed,
Four angels round my head;
One to watch and one to pray
And two to bear my soul away.

A beautiful poem. Angels are always there to guide and protect. It takes deep faith to delve their role among the faithfuls.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John! Hey, welcome back! You've been long gone. It's good to see you, faithful pards! Come, gather ‘round; I'll deal the cards!

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John: Get out of here; I want you gone. One at each corner of my bed --- you must all be sick in the head! Go on now, scram! Why can't you see: this girl just needs her privacy!

As a former member of the army, you might appreciate this little verse I heard years ago: Now I lay me down to sleep in my little army Jeep. If I should die before I wake, please, dear Lord, put on the brake!
