In the most unlikely moments
memories flood through me.
And I know that I have let
Someone go when there is only sweet residue
Where he or she once was.
Although bits and pieces of suppressed pain
Do surface at times,
The memories come now gently,
Like waves sweeping over me.
And I do not think of what I could or should have done,
But subtly a smile rests full on my lips
I feel a peaceful warmth spread through me
Where haunted memories once caressed a bruised inside.
The same memories which caused so much agony
Are now finally accepted and I think about them finally with acceptance
And calm serenity.
