Apollonia Poem by John Duffy

Apollonia

A voice from The Great In-Between speaks.

**'Sometimes my child'**

You just have to hold onto your agonizing cries

And glorious smiles and bury them so deep inside

Even if it makes you feel petrified

**Sometimes my child**

You must choose not to show all those watchful inquisitions parading as friends in public

All your inner vulnerabilities or those dark recollections that might still unfortunately hurt

If they are published

**Sometimes my child**

You have to be like a well-washed seashell and only open up and show those you worship and trust

All your soul's crusades reinforced with anguish

When you can only look them squarely in the eyes

And know they won't sell you out by judging and shattering your well-placed faith when your good name is discussed

That precarious bond of allegiance

They once swore they would always try to uphold until the very day they die

When you finally deemed them virtuous

And invited them to stroll through your worlds of expressions

Painted through words on colourful seashores

As you both walked hand in hand on its beaches with a true everlasting sense of friendship

Sometimes declared openly with a literal roar

**Sometimes my child**

You have to just trust the Painted Words of Intuition more
