An Old Head On Young Shoulders Poem by Carmen Cilla Cook

An Old Head On Young Shoulders

Were you born with all this wisdom?
Did it come with your baptism?
So they say it’s in his blood
The sensibility just seems to flood
Does he get if from his Dad?
And for that he should be glad
But no that’s not how it goes
I think that every parent knows
It’s the one that’s been there guiding
He’s the one who is deciding?
To make this young owl see clear
He has taken all his fear
Let the carer take the glory
It is he who tells the story
Children grow with those who nurture
That is what will tell their future
Blood has nothing to do with attitudes
No point getting into family feuds
They are loyal to those who stay
So you should never go away.
