Aging Poem by Lee Boueri

Aging

Rating: 5.0

In everyone's mind
A story is written
From the day we are born
With sound, smell and vision
Unlike a book
No presuppositions

Every day is the turn of a page
Some filled with laughter
Some filled with rage
Gathering wisdom
Getting better with age

All good books
Will one day decay
Even great classics
Have bindings that fray
Snow-white pages
Fading to grey

Once past their prime
Our minds will forget
With the passing of time
Less recollect
Life once sublime
Becomes derelict

That's right... so simple yet reveals the depth... [all things shall pass away...]

These are arresting thoughts about ageing, which includes me. Sometimes I think that I have got better and gained a lot as I got older. So far my memory is as good as ever. A most stimulating poem.

Thanks for the comment Michael. This was written while a full time carer for my mum who suffers from dementia. As the disease progressed I eventually could not keep up the level of care she required and she is now in an aged home. She has lived a remarkable life and this was written with the intention of honoring that. I wish you many healthy years to come.
