Adrift Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Adrift

She stopped fighting her fate;
Breathless rowing against the current,
Her limbs needed rest.
She let her boat adrift.

On the way were shaded coves,
White sands and palm-fringed shores,
Gentle winds to caress her tresses,
And gently close her eye-lashes.

Too tired to steer ashore,
She let the wind decide the course;
With the setting sun on her face,
She lay down on the boat to rest.

It may safely beach on a sandy shore;
It may crash onto a rocky coast,
It may plunge down a waterfall,
She hardly sensed, she hardly cared!
