I wish I lived in Scotland
Och, aye, in a wee stone house,
Maybe in a valley or on a bit of land
Somewhere in the Borders of the south.
I donna put a name on it
Where I can wander down the burns,
Search and study stones in cairns,
Explore the hidden mystery of it.
Where the waves are mountains,
Flowing currents of bluebells,
rippling waters streaking with a dusky gold,
Sweeping winds that stories tell,
Where I can eat some kippers,
Or just drink a glass of Laphroaig,
Visit with the Old Man of Hoy,
Chat with pretty Polly from Dervaig,
Touch the waters of Alberlady Sands
With my own two hands,
Hear the baa baa of the sheep,
Dream of druids in my sleep.
I wish I were a Scotsman.
Hooh, boy, that would be
With my name the highest in the land,
But I’ll never a son of the soil be.
I be quite honest wi’ ye,
Nae time for pretendin’ like,
I do no have the courage like
those Scotsmen and their fighting stuff.
Very charming, with striking imagery. I liked your dialect. kate
dude the imagery in this is phenominal! I love the 'Och, aye' and 'wee' hahah...plus beautiful references to the land itself...yeah it would be cool to live there, and maybe a little more simple
And i wish i was an irish lady... I loved reading your poem.
I enjoyed your poem about Scotland, Ben, it is truly a beautiful country. I live in the border country so if you jump on a plane I'll take you on a tour. Irene
Where I can wander down the burns, Search and study stones in cairns, Explore the hidden mystery of it...................... exqusite view of a land like a superb art raving over canvas uncovering the hidden mystery of land that rouses him to revel upon its waves of each and every specle of the dust, sui-generis, and i do compliment, as i adore and admire the one of its son of the soil, well penned yet with ingenuity, thanks dear Ben

I would like to translate this poem
But, to write this poem, you ARE a son of the soil. You have described Scotland, and made me walk where you wished, and seen what you saw. THAT'S poetry that lasts thru time. And I'll be seeing it long down the road! ! ! Great.xxElysabeth
