A Sad Observation Poem by Susan Williams

A Sad Observation

Rating: 4.9

.
I watched a movie last night about World War 2,
and the nearly 350,000 allied soldiers
stranded and under fire at Dunkirk
injured, dying, and desperate
and the 850 little boats that over the course of one week
saved them, rescued them, evacuated them
850 little boats piloted by just the common average English citizen
[the old as well as the middle-aged and their teenage sons]
who out of love for their fellow man
decided to take their fishing boats and their sailing boats
and cross the English Channel to save those soldiers,
already knowing they would face the deadly gauntlet of Germans
flying overhead and shooting
all the big boats and little boats to bits.
.
.
Now lets visit America in 2020-
asked to save their fellow Americans
they whine and cry and say wearing masks is too dangerous.
and an infringement on their freedom.

'they whine and cry and say wearing masks is too dangerous. and an infringement on their freedom' - too much physical comfort is making the present generation lazy. Internet addiction is making them selfish. Thanks for reminding us of the widening gap of values between the two generations. A good poem to read.

Tom, my friend, it is a depressing day when we come face to face with the ugly face of a once beautiful dream
