A Manly Plea Poem by Hannatu Pqrs

A Manly Plea

Rating: 5.0

I was married once
But it didn't last
It was a most dreadful experience
I shudder to think of the past

She was a beautiful woman
Born of a noble family
People told me I was lucky
Little did I know she spelt TRAGEDY

To start with, she couldn't cook
Good meals are the way to a man's heart
And I wouldn't let the hired help cook my meals
And thus, we took off with a bad start

Another of her faults:
She had a lousy temper
But I am the man!
Shouldn't I be the kemper?

For her, my friends were a problem
She told me she was properly groomed abroad
Yet, she didn't know a thing about entertaining guests
Most of my friends wouldn't visit, and I became bored

She was very untidy
See, I'm as neat as a soldier!
I couldn't accept an untidy home
I asked my parents to coach her

But you see, the woman had no respect
Looked down on my mother; talked back at my father
Her parents fared no better
She simply cried and cuddled up to her Maama

I would have forgiven her all this
But here's what did it; the last straw
She refused to have any kids
So I showed her the door

This, my entreaty
To any lady who would care
To be that partner
In a way that I dare

It shouldn't be so hard
I'm sure there's some lady somewhere
Who would stand for the ideals of all time
The type of lady I revere

I am a good man
Though I say so myself: ask anywhere,
I guarantee you this fact
To any woman who would love me, I'll show care

I am a romantic
I'll buy her flowers
I can build her gardens of them
And a home with many bowers

Hear me out, whoever you are
We'll build a home together
I'll forget my experience; you forget others
And I won't hurt you ever!

If you agree to end my woes
You would have saved a good man's life
But if you say no, then
Can I ever settle me down with a wife?
