A Butterfly Day Poem by Ben Gieske

A Butterfly Day

Rating: 3.9

........................It’s a butterfly day.
...............Not yet what color can I say.

.................The rain has just subsided.
...............The rainbow no longer abides.

.......................Yet its colors are
...........................spilling still

....................on the window sill
..................from flower to flower.

.......I found some algae in my aqua today
and didn’t know whether to be happy or sad.

............Then alit on it some butterflies.
.............Later came some dragonflies

..................depositing their secrets
.........-they caught me holding my breath -
...................momentarily we all met

.....................as if only passing by
................searching over the waters
..................for reflections of the sky

A moment of reflection perhaps, or a seeing of something beautiful within the simplicity of things, Thankyou for sharing this Love duncan X

Magnificent scene painting! I wish I'd been there. The language is as free as the butterflies and dragonflies that came to visit.

Butterflies, a butterfly day, a passing reflection in mirrored waters, make this poem divine. To really notice nature as you have, means you understand we are part of it, so we should cherish and care for all we see. Thank you Ben.

You have a unique vision, I really like the way you make the typography as part of the poem. my favorite images are: '................searching over the waters ..................for reflections of the sky' and 'The rainbow no longer abides. .......................Yet its colors are ...........................spilling still ....................on the window sill ..................from flower to flower' What a beauty! there was only 1 line I wasn't sure of, ' found some algae in my aqua today.' I am almost sure but I have never heard this expression, Is aqua an aquarium? that's all I could think of.

Just my sort of day Ben. We were given butterfly kisses as children, and my mother came back as a butterfly three times and help resolve a family crisis. It was a Monarch butterfly. So your poem is magic to me, and I am fluttering along with every word. Top marks for such a beautiful poem.! Karin Anderson
