Wow, What A Moon! Poem by Roy Ballard

Wow, What A Moon!

I know that light. I've seen how it bedecks
the midnight forest and the dappled rides
across the lampless acres of the Brecks
when moon-mad hares square up to fight their brides.
I've seen ships ride the rippled moon to sea
and heard from river bank their engines throb,
as laden as the mules of Tartary
on fabled, jinn-dogged, silken roads to Lob.
By moonlight once I heard the Matterhorn
intone its love across the icy slopes;
a deeper voice was surely never born
and Monte Rosa surely caught its hopes.
Moon calls to earth; together they were hurled
for light and order in a tumbling world.
