Why Poet? Poem by Sandra Feldman

Why Poet?

Rating: 5.0

Because it is,
A chance to dream,
A chance to screen,
Against what is injustice,
And view Life's scheme,
With hope, esteem,
And always fight for Justice.

There's a famous line in a poem by Holderlin, a German Romantic poet. He asked OF WHAT USE ARE POETS IN A DESTITUTE TIME? Many modern poets quote that question without answering it. Your list gives a very cogent response to it. There are enough activities you list to make poets and poetry relevant to social lives once again. VIEWING LIFE'S SCHEME WITH HOPE is something I find congenial. I need to make my poems more responsive to the fight for justice.

I have liked this poem very much. You have defined a poet almost perfectly in not so many words. 10/10 for this short piece. 'And always fight for Justice.' - Yes, always so!
