Watched Through The Wings Of A Bird Poem by Mark Heathcote

Watched Through The Wings Of A Bird

Investigative cock-robin is peering down his beak
Does a boy lay down that much interest?
Beneath your hawthorn scraggy-wired feet;
Or is it just me you'd romance into rest
Turning full circle from the spade's cutting edge.

Do tell? .... Dear little friend of the copse-and-fen,
Do you really- understand the ways of men?
For my heart is as still as ice-carved jade
Watching through the eyes of the earth.
Watched through the wings of a bird.
