War Poem by Skyler Ryan

War

Rating: 5.0

The same battles we always fight.
Because of the same fires you consistently relight.
The innocents hiding in fright.
It's sad how our lives can change just overnight.
Even though it's our human right,
You always seem to keep the truth out of sight.

Out of sight…
The lesson I never learn.
For my girl's heart will forever yearn.
Why are we here?
Why risk losing an eye or an ear?
Our minds are consistently filled with fear.
And at night we try to wash it down with whiskey and beer.
I have been on this tour for almost a year.

Yeah, Almost a year…
Lost a good friend.
Sad to see him come to such a quick end.
The meetings he did always attend.
But the rules he always seemed to bend.
Wow, looks like a trend.
Wonder when it will ever come to an end.

Come to an end…
Always filled with hatred and doubt.
Trying to figure out what this is all about.
Just yesterday I was at home catching some trout.
But now all I'm constantly hearing are the words 'Frag Out! '
Honestly, I'm getting worn out.
My mind is starting to get too washed out.

Too washed out…
What's the problem with war?
Why are people constantly wanting more?
Everyone's sick of all the blood and the gore.
The hearts of innocents you tore.
They all want no more.
And you all know who I speak for.
The brothers and sisters we've all lost to war.
