The Wind Poem by Robert Louis Stevenson

The Wind

Rating: 3.4

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass--
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all--
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

The poem creates a chant-like mood. It keeps repeating in your mind and never leaves. I love it.

there's something very profound about this poem of RL's. It hits upon ur emotions and makes u want ot cry each time u read it. I feel it has to do with rl's unique style and the simple, plaintve themes of his poems. they always bring out the child in u transporting u to the past and the subconscious memories that lie therein. a desperate craving for the past is the hallmark of all his poems. and his rhyme scheme is such that passions erupt within u like a volcano.
