The Song Of Despair Poem by Pablo Neruda

The Song Of Despair

Rating: 3.1

You swallowed everything, like distance.
Like the sea, like time.
In you everything sank!
It was the happy hour of assault and the kiss.
The hour of the spell that blazed like a lighthouse.
Pilot's dread, fury of a blind diver,
turbulent drunkenness of love,
in you everything sank!

Jeanie Cummings lists two lines in Spanish and English from " The Song of Despair" at the beginning of her new book, American Dirt. Nothing matches the above words.

This is not the entire poem - go to //poets.org/poem/song-despair which includes the lines in Jeanine Cummins' American Dirt.

Interesting concept to compare a Kiss as the lighthouse of love. I do agree. Read mine - Despair - Adeline

the ever romantic poet of such great subtleties ' you swallowed everything, like distance/like the sea, like time/ in you everything sank' it did indeed swak

it is Pablo the only universal poet from Hispanic Literature. A roamer life to the last of idealistic and romantic men. this poem pictures the colours of deep dispair.
