The Kiss Poem by Sara Teasdale

The Kiss

Rating: 3.5

I hoped that he would love me,
And he has kissed my mouth,
But I am like a stricken bird
That cannot reach the south.

For though I know he loves me,
To-night my heart is sad;
His kiss was not so wonderful
As all the dreams I had.

This is truly delightful and sums up our expectations when they fall short of reality.

Sometimes we tend to be so optimistic and set our expectations so higher in love and relationships, this is dangerous when face the real thing. Nice poem.

Reality cannot always attain the beauty of dreams aspired to.

I wrote the poem 'Dreams Aspiring Surpass Reality', inspired by the poem 'The Kiss' by Sara Teasdale' and dedicated to Sara Teasdale.

Of all the comments below, David Wood said it best. Pretty much what I was going to say. Thanks, David.
