Sad, Sad Room (A Dark Poem) Poem by Practicing Poetess

Sad, Sad Room (A Dark Poem)

Rating: 3.0

The best room in an opulent hotel
Contains a secret it won't tell
A good and famous man died there
When life he could no longer bear
Sad, sad room, imbued with death
Sad, sad room, where he took his last breath.
And though the room is empty now,
You cannot help but notice how
The luxury can't hide the gloom
The dark pall that enshrouds this room.
Sad, sad room, imbued with death,
Sad, sad room, where he took his last breath.
Fine furnishings cannot disguise
What you begin to realize
As to the room you venture near
That something tragic happened here.
Sad, sad room, imbued with death,
Sad, sad room, where he took his last breath.
His body's gone; the room is clean
No other guest has this room seen.
The walls his essence do retain,
And for this room, that is the bane.
Sad, sad room, imbued with death,
Sad, sad room, where he took his last breath.

An excellent poem about a difficult subject. Would make a great song!

Thanks, Richard, for your observant comment. Many of my poems have that lyrical quality, with something resembling a refrain.

Some famous but lonely people seem to die in hotel rooms, as your poem reminds the reader. 'Something tragic happened here'. I like the free verse and heroic couplets, but above all the sadness.

Thank you, Michael, for your great appraisal! (I myself like the sing-song effect!)

A poem on death hauntingly expressed. Nice penmanship. Thanks for sharing.
