Old New Song Poem by Jabulani Mzinyathi

Old New Song

Rating: 5.0

this song is new
for this song is old
this song has been sung before
this song shall always be sung
this song shall be about freedom
it has always been about freedom
this song shall be a memorial
this song shall be a compass
never shall we forget its roots
never shall we forget its timeless message

this song shall be sung off key
for it defies those categories
the song is the future built today
firmly rooted on the foundation of the past
this song shall drive them crazy
those armed with opportunistic tendencies
the gluttons riding on our backs
the parasites sucking our blood dry

won't you help me sing this song
in the discordant voice lies the melody
this song is the rattling of old bones
the old bones that gave rise to our being
those old bones that gave us direction
those dry bones that shall always have life

this song shall speak of the heroes
those that have not been defiled by lies
it shall bear the true story of our people
the sing shall be etched in our minds
there in the heroes acre of our minds
there where patrick kombayi lives
there where ndabaningi sithole lives
there where jairos jiri forever lives
there where many unsung heroes live
there where new heroes are defined

this song shall live forever
though it may sound discordant to some
this song shall speak of liberty
this song shall speak of the future
it shall not be sung by demigods
the song shall be against polarisation
this song is a part of the continental anthem
it is a part of all freedom fighters' anthems
it shall be the song of all yearning for freedom
they shall sing it in palestine against evil
they shall sing it where oppression refuses to die
won't you help me sing this song
