No Need... Poem by Mallika Achuthan Menon

No Need...

Rating: 5.0

No need of a diamond necklace
for this gorgeous night.
As the twinkling stars
made themselves
a lovely chain of gems for her.

No need of an anklet
for the streamlet
As she flows
with a tinkling laughter.

No need of a flute for the woods
To play any wonderful melody
Passing wind just sang and fluted
Twigs and leaves both danced to the tune
When his fingers touched the bamboo
A marvellous cadence materialised
And it reverberated along the woods.

No need of any more crimson shade
For the clouds who draw pictures
The dusk came as a bride with smile of shyness
And shined in her red apparel.
The blush on her cheeks or red shine of her dress
What caused the sky turn into red?

No need for the rain
to conduct concert music
with rhythmic beats and notes.
As rainy days are always followed
by never ending insect orchestra!

No need for the sun to own a swing
As rainbow serves that purpose
It hangs there with no hook or crook.
A winsome wonderment of the sky.

No need of any tutor for her
As cuckoo proved her own talent
in the world of music efficiently.
No wonder she is named as
the queen of melodies unanimously.

No need of any rainshades for them
When it rains cats and dogs
Toadstools, mushrooms don't bother it
As their dome shaped caps are canopies.

No need for a new dress daily
For the dawn who comes with
rain or shine
As a flock of mist draped her well
With a gown in milky shade with lace.

No need for a space in the beauty kit
To store a mirror for comely moon
As earth has ample free flowing rivulets
In them she watches her own reflection.

No need of any loneliness
or any woes for me my dear!
If your gaze meets with mine
I am on cloud nine ever after.

No need of any fear or anxiety
As my faith in You is firm, O' God!
My all good deeds and virtues
are the one and only causal to
make the distance less between us.

God manifests Him thru Nature. There is no need of any gems and jewels if we are blessed by the beauty of nature and god as well. All the words are penned to fit the mood of the content.Awesome.Thanks for inviting me.

Wonder if it really is true about good deeds and virtues......God seems turn a blind eye to those who follow such old fashioned rules. Beautiful verses. That for inviting me

No need for words to express faith and goodness other than the sighs and waves left behind the virtues

You found a wonderful framework for this poem, with the phrase NO NEED introducing one gorgeous image after another. As in NATURE, this poem is one of observation of the world's natural beauties and a single human being's gratitude for it. And I strongly sense the theme of humility I've found in your other poems. That theme is like a prayer that runs through your poems, not stated directly but implied. This poem, also like NATURE, is a series of beads on a chain that shine with spiritual as well as physical beauty. Or it is a flight of steps that take us up, up, up to the crowning spiritual reality. And there the poet and reader fall silent - in wonder and humility.

I clicked on this poem because the title intrigued me and the poem more than lived up to my expectations. Your imagination is alive with possibilities to create images of truth and beauty. I have a book of paintings called A CELEBRATION OF LOVE: THE ROMANTIC HEROINE IN THE INDIAN ARTS, which I really love. The same author also has a book of the Krishna-Radha story. Your poem could be matched with many of the paintings reproduced which emphasize the devotion and sincerity of women in love. The big difference is that you argue the women's emotion are so genuine they don't artificial things; their beauty shines from within and illuminates the world. To paraphrase Shakespeare, O BRAVE NEW WORLD WITH SUCH WOMEN IN IT! !

Great imagination undermining the need of artificial things before natural ones. Enjoyed reading.
