My Shoes Poem by Thomas Plotz

My Shoes

You've walked in my shoes,
From the places I've stayed
To the jobs that I laid, as I protected
For our Uncle Sam

As I moved from this state, to that nation
To this duty, to that station,
You were close behind

More than one came along on relocation
Sometimes all, at one time or another
Depending on where the relocation was

You've walked in my shoes,
Maybe just the town it's self
One of you would show up as a
Waiter, guard or a new fighting friend

Doing jobs I have done,
Meeting people I have met
Was this to understand me more?

I am honored by your sacrifice
I am honored by your love

Compassion, dedication and dearest alterations
Changing my mood, from your time spent

You've walked in my shoes,
Sometimes as I look back, look back over my shoulder
You are here; you're time not wasted,
My lovers, my family, my friends
I am honored that you love me dear
