Money Talks Poem by Kevin Patrick

Money Talks

It spoils my ears
Wherever I walk
A magazine couple
Dissecting the costs
Of Venetian blinds
& granite counter-tops
Driveway weekend Dads
Weighing their values
In deluxe speed boats
Of over-sized hot wheels
Teens saran wrapped in youth
Competing for status
On terminal fashions
And the latest console wars
every scrap of conversation
people stuff their gullets
at the banquet of the dollar
Their mouths filled with envy
Who has it, who lacks its and who wants it?
measuring our lives
in prizes of prices
But money never talks
It just lies flaccidly
Like the prostitutes
We all pretend we're not
