Money Is All That Seems To Matter Poem by Francis Duggan

Money Is All That Seems To Matter

I've always been a stranger to things like wealth and fame
And If I struggle for to make ends meet I only have myself to blame
For I too had my chances but I left them go by
And others with far less opportunities are far wealthier than I.

For years of penning doggerel I do not have much to show
And though I love Mother Nature not much about her I know
The more I know I know the less I know I know seems sad for one to say
And with me about my Goddess Nature it has always been that way.

And money is all that seems to matter in the World of today
There was a time one could get credit if for food one could not pay
But those days long since over and money now is what matter most
To a pauper or a beggar none have ever drunk a toast.

Moneyed people rule the World and what a mess out of it they've made
For our crimes against Mother Nature a huge price we all have paid
Our rivers with chemicals polluted that wash out to the sea
Those who abuse Mother Nature abuse all of humanity.

There's a huge hole in the ozone and pollution in the air
And thousands must grow poorer just for one to become a millionaire
And for years of penning slipshod verses of success I cannot tell
But suppose that is the price one pay for penning doggerel.
