Lonely Planet Poem by Harley White

Lonely Planet

Rating: 5.0

Floating planet in the sky,
were you asking, ‘Why, oh why
am I stranded in this place,
orphaned here in outer space?

‘Was I born to be errant,
shorn of an astral parent?
Lost begetter, mother star,
how I wonder where you are! '

Just as if they'd heard the plea,
scientists believe they see
a relation holding sway
many billion miles away

o'er the broadest orbit known
of this drifter and have shown
that despite the distance long
their affinity is strong.

How this stellar bond was seen
took some observations keen
by the astronomic team,
linking them in far-out scheme.

J2126 for short,
exoplanet with cohort,
moves around its starry host
in a course that is the most

hugely wide that's been discerned
up to now in what we've learned—
a million annums nearly
to do what Earth does yearly!

Hard to fathom such a span,
even though stargazers can…
So lone planet, keep your calm,
for they've found your missing mom!
